Two new Deacons

On Saturday the 12 of June two of our Brothers, Bro Gerald Mangion and Bro Jeremy Vella were ordained deacons by the Cardinal of Turin, Mons Severino Poletto at the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Turin. During the solemn mass 24 Salesians, from 9 different countries, were ordained deacons.

Bro Gerald born in Lija, is 30 years old and has been a Salesian for the past seven years. He met the Salesians of Don Bosco when he was a student at Savio College in Dingli. After graduating in Biology and Chemistry at the University of Malta, he did his novitiate in Pinerolo, outside Turin. After continuing his studies in philosophy at the University of Malta, he worked for two years at St Patrick’s. For the past three years he studied Theology at the Salesian University in Turin. He worked in a number f Salesian Houses both Malta and abroad.

Bro Jeremy born in San Gwann, is 29 years old and has met the Salesians throught the Summer Camps and later on started a discernment process to understand God’s calling. He did his secondary studies at St Aloysius College, B’Kara and later continued studies in philosophy and englisha t the University of Malta. He did his year of novitiate in Pinerolo, taught at Savio College and worked for two years in St Patrick’s Home, Sliema. Bro Jeremy finished his three years study in Theology in Turin.

For us Salesians Turin is at heart as it is the place where Don Bosco, the founder ofthe Salesian Congregation started his work with needy children and youth. Today the Salesians are spread across 125 countries worldwide.
