Welcome to the official site of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Malta. The Salesians came to Malta in 1903. Our first presence was that of St Patrick's in Sliema, and later came the Oratory, known as Salesjani (or Salezjani). Today the delegation includes a number of realities and also two other houses, one in Dingli - Savio College and the other in Senglea known as St Philip.

Being prepared from A to V… olunteer

It would be fair to say that, following on from the successful information session held in January the SPYS preparation sessions for prospective volunteers are now well underway! During these sessions the prospective volunteers have, to date, started to get to know each other while at the same time learning about the Salesians and Don Bosco’s preventive system of education, trust, teamwork and team building.

Teamwork Session - St.Thomas Moore College

Twenty nine boys, aged between fourteen to sixteen were eager participants in the Team Work Session held on the 25th of February 2010. SPYS were contacted to organize this session, by Mr.C.D'Amato who was organizing a live in for a group of boys from Kullegg San Tumas Moore. The boys participated and enjoyed the tasks set for them. Afterwards, they were made to think about how their actions and those of others affected the team. Some important take home messages were mentioned and hopefully the boys will use what they learnt in their everyday lives.

Haiti Cries

On Wednesday 10th January the Jesuits collaborated with the Salesians of Don Bosco to organise a fundraising event, to raise money for the Salesian Community in Haiti. Haiti Cries included a football tournament, in which several teams competed against each other, as well as a plant and book sale. Hair braiding and face painting were also organised. A drum circle livened up the atmosphere, with two professional players leading any volunteers to put together a tune.

Carnival Disco

February is synonymous with two main activities in Malta – St Paul’s Shipwreck and Carnival. Each year the Oratory in Sliema joins the festivities by the Carnival Disco. Around 200 members and friends, including members of the Dingli Oratory, danced to music by DJ Dundz and DJ Didi. The Costume competition was also held with awards in different categories, like Most Creative Costume and Best Couple.

HDS 6th February 2010.

The HDS groups met again for their 7th meeting this year. In the morning a nice group of young boys came for the meetings. The Form 1-3 where quite numerous. There was a formation session in groups, followed by recreation and then Mass. There were also meetings for Form 4s and 6th Formers in the afternoon. Well done to all participants and to all the Salesian animators who organise the meetings.

Two New Pre-novices

The Feast of St John Bosco celebrated at Savio College on the 29th of January witnessed the promise for the commitment to pre-novitiate of two young men. Jake Mamo and Pierre Bonnici 2 of the current 4 aspirants at Dingli made the promise during the School Mass celebrated by Fr Paul Formosa.
