St Patricks - Sliema - Residential Children Services

The Salesians' work in St. Patrick's is focused on meeting the needs of children who need an alternative home for some time. Within St. Patrick's we have four Units (Magone House, Savio House, Bosco House and Rua House) that each cater for up to eight boys aged 9 to 16. Here their needs are attended to by a professional group of people within the Care Team. These provide a homely yet semi-structured residential setting where a lot of individual attention is provided for these children; where their past traumas are addressed and their future is re-built little by little. The aim of the services is the eventual reintegration of the child within his family of origin or elsewhere. Since 2002 about 120 children have benefited from St. Patrick's residential services. Additional support is given to them by educational professionals and through St. Patrick's Support Services Framework which comprises a Family Therapist, an Educational Psychologist, a Drama therapist, a trainee Child Gestalt Psychotherapist and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. A pilot-project is currently underway that should see the launching of a domestic-style house for up to six children in a central location in Malta in early 2008, heralding a new era in child-friendly provision of residential services in our island.
